The Pokemon Trading Card Game—Cosmic Eclipse expansion was the final expansion in the Sun & Moon series. I took inspiration from the original Sun & Moon logo to tie the whole set together but added planet-like shadows to the backplate to give the illusion of an eclipse.

The Pokemon Trading Card Game—Burning Shadows expansion focused heavily on dark and ghost type Pokemon. I wanted the logo to feel spooky and ghost-like, while remaining highly legible. The orange and red stroke around the text was meant to make the letters feel like they were burning and the black plate shape was inspired by a mix of flames, bat wings, and Gothic architecture.

The characters featured on this tin, Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma, are being taken over by the pokémon Necrozma. Inspired by a solar ecplise that occurred while concepting this tin, and with the idea of light being taken over by darkness, I designed this space scene for the tin. I then carried the sun and moon elements onto the mini binder, note pad, pencils, and sticker sheets included in the tin.

I concepted, designed, and developed this award-winning packaging with Kevin Fish and Kumi Okada. We used the licensing look and feel to inspire the exterior of the boxes and created a fully customizable vector desktop scene to be used on the interior of the boxes. This creates a customer experience where they can enter the world of Detective Pikachu through opening our packaging.

The Pokemon Trading Card Game—Super Premium Collection was designed to look like a Pokémon Great Ball. The Great Ball is highly recognizable to fans and it makes this box a collectors item in conjunction with the previous year’s Pokéball box design. The scale pattern in spot gloss along the bottom helps to tie this box together with the rest of the Dragon Majesty product line.

The League Battle Deck boxes were designed to feel action-oriented with a large burst effect in the background. The first two boxes were released together as a set and the window was designed to echo the yellow bracket design elements used for all tag team Pokémon cards.
The third box was released separately and the background design element was tweaked to feel sharper for Sword & Shield. The window shape was also designed to mimic the featured character’s head.

Trainer Kits are designed for younger users. With this in mind, I selected bright and inviting colors for this box. The featured Pokémon are rock and electric type Pokémon. I played off the similar shape between lightning and fissures in rock to create a cohesive look and feel on either side, while linking them to the featured Pokemon.

The Elite Trainer boxes are collectable items that attract an older demographic of Pokémon players. I used bold green colors to make the character pop off the packaging on shelf, and I selected a timeless gold color to tie this box and the featured dragon Pokémon to a medieval look and feel.

In collaboration with Kate Lissi and Rachael Alber, I created the new look and feel for “Dora the Explorer” and “Dora and Friends.” White is the main background color for the packaging because market research shows that most of Dora’s competitors use all purple and/ or pink packaging. The new look was designed to stand out on the shelf. This shows the patterns I created for the Dora brand, our in progress concepts, and the final packaging designs now on the shelves.

The Pokémon Ultra Beasts travel through wormholes or portals in the Pokémon video game and TV show. Using that as inspiration, I designed these boxes to have a window shape that felt indicative of those portals. I also worked with our production team to print inside the box so that when you look through the window of one box it appears that you’re seeing into the exterior of the other box.
In addition to the boxes, I designed the playmats that come inside with the same look and feel in mind.

The Pokémon Trading Card brand often features dynamic and action focus characters and scenes. When I saw the initial concept for the mini tins, I jumped at the chance to work on them. They have a very different look than most Pokémon Trading Card Game products. I worked directly with the product development team and character artists to make the tins one consecutive image while maintaining the integrity of the original art piece.

Every June the Greenwood neighborhood, in Seattle, has a vintage car show. In 2019 Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery wanted to roll out their new crowler machine and celebrate the car show with a limited edition Car Show label. The label I designed is inspired by 50’s muscle cars and vintage gas station signage. I also hand lettered the Car Show logo.
